Hi,

We asked for Q & As and we got some! Here is one below.

John

Q&A: Air Filter & Air Entry

Q: Particularly in a drag car, is there an advantage to using an air filter, 14" diameter x 4" high, when the carb is not sealed to the hood via an air pan?
A: You must be solving a problem or else you are creating one. Some times the track is really dirty and running one is a really good idea for the engine. Or some times the engine-carburetor likes a slight choking effect to richen the engine. Other than that there would be no reason to run one.

Q: Is there an advantage to the filter when a pan is used and sealed to the hood like NASCAR?
A: Not directly, just to clean the air.

Q: Does the filter aid in conditioning the air flow to the carb or is an air pan at the same level as the carb inlet with no radius sufficient?
A: The dAMBEST carb was designed to be able to use everything from a flat pan to a regular air cleaner. You should try and keep the air cleaner top as high as possible so that air comes in as naturally as possible.
